Humayun Kabir warns Suvendu of “real cinema” in Murshidabad, calls Baruipur clash just a “trailer”

Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has warned BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari against entering Murshidabad on April 13, stating that he will face large-scale protests. This comes four days after Trinamool’s disciplinary committee issued him a strict warning against making provocative public statements. Kabir’s remarks are in response to Adhikari’s comment outside the Assembly, where he reportedly said that if BJP comes to power, Trinamool’s Muslim MLAs would be removed from the Assembly.

On March 12, Kabir strongly criticized Adhikari’s statement, demanding a retraction within 72 hours and warning of consequences. “If Suvendu does not take back his remarks, he will be dealt with appropriately,” Kabir had said. He also alleged that Adhikari would face demonstrations, including potential gheraos, by 40 Muslim MLAs whenever he visited the Assembly or any other location. Following these remarks, Trinamool’s four-member disciplinary committee issued a show-cause notice to Kabir, and after reviewing his response, issued a final warning on March 18.

Despite the party’s warning, Kabir escalated his rhetoric, stating that if Adhikari visits Murshidabad on April 13, he will witness the “real cinema.” Referring to the protests against Adhikari in Baruipur on March 19, Kabir claimed that the BJP leader had only seen a “trailer” of the response he would face in Murshidabad. During Adhikari’s visit to Baruipur, Trinamool workers allegedly staged massive protests, waving black flags, chanting slogans, and attacking his convoy. Adhikari had traveled there with other BJP MLAs to protest against Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, alleging suppression of the Opposition’s voice.

Adhikari has yet to respond to Kabir’s latest statement, but his planned visit to Murshidabad has raised security concerns. Political tensions between BJP and Trinamool have been escalating, with multiple instances of clashes between party workers across the state. BJP leaders have alleged that the ruling party is attempting to obstruct their political activities, while Trinamool leaders have accused BJP of instigating communal tensions.

Trinamool’s disciplinary committee is closely monitoring the situation, as the party leadership has attempted to contain internal controversies ahead of the elections. With political confrontations increasing in the state, security arrangements for Adhikari’s visit to Murshidabad are expected to be reviewed. The situation remains tense as both parties continue their campaigns in the region.
